Kenzie's school supply box

blogIMG_8429.2 blogIMG_8436.2

I had so much fun with this.  It's been way too long since I brought out the glue, foam brushes, paper and made a complete mess of my workspace - lol.

Materials:

White photo box from OfficeMax

SEI Ally's Wonderland papers/stickers/tags

Mod Podge

Anita's Satin Varnish

Foam brushes

Print Clearly font

Photos printed on Epson Premium Presentation Paper

Instructions:

I started by printing my photos and laying them on the box.  Then I started cutting pieces of paper and laying them out.  Once I had a general idea for the look, I slid the pieces on to a large sheet of cardstock to keep them somewhat together.

Then I cut the side/front pieces.  I chose not to wrap them completely around the box because I wanted her to be able to open/close it easily.  I cut the pieces to fit, then scored them with a bone folder  so that there was about 1/4" overlap on the top of the box.  Then I brushed Mod Podge on the back, put in place and smoothed from the center out to prevent creases.  *Be careful when you glue down your photos - you don't want any glue on the front of them because it will take off parts of your photo.

I continued gluing my pieces until the entire surface was covered.  Then I let dry for an hour.

Then I brushed 3 coats of Anita's satin varnish on top and let dry for a few hours in between each coat.

Last step was to print her name on a piece of digital notebook paper and slide in the front label.

That is an adorable school box!! I'm sure that she'll LOVE it! What a fantastic idea.

Adorable! Wish the girls had room for more than a pencil box at school!

VERY cute!!!!!!!!

Wow! Heather, I love the way you add creativity and love to everything you do! Even the little polka dot pencils you put in her school box are over-the-top CUTE! You're a good momma! Thanks for the creative inspiration. Kasie

She's already the coolest girl in school, before it's even started!! How adorable.

Adorable--I am sure she'll love it!

she'll love it for sure! :)

She is going to FLIP when she sees that. And you know Katie is going to want one now. ;)

Heather, that turned out GREAT!! She's definitely going to have the coolest supply box in the class!

Oh Heather that is cute! How could she not love that? Thanks for sharing all your great ideas! I love them!

Thanks,

Lisa

this is just ADORABLE! thanks for sharing your inspiration! Kenzie will love it, I'm sure! I have to find out at my DD's K-garten orientation if they have a place to keep something like this!

Uh, you hope she'll like it? You know she is going to LOVE it, as would any little girl.

Thank you for sharing the how-to. I'm going to make one for my son using photos of him in all his various super-hero costumes, using a box for all his comic books, etc.

One question--the varnish. Did it dry sticky at all? Is there a reason you prefer it over just mod-podging the whole thing? Thanks!

Did you just varnish over the pictures?? Just wondered how the product is different than Mod Podge. It doesn't damage the pics?

Beyond adorable-it's so bright and colorful. The playhouse is amazing too...It's looking cuter than my apartment right now-LOL!

Super cute Heather...great job!

I am dying to hear how the first day of Kindergarten went!

Cool! What a fantastic project!!!

xoxoxo
