Kenzie had her first day of Kindergarten yesterday. Tom and I ended up taking the day off to work on the playhouse, so I brought the kids in. Kenzie was so excited and absolutely loved her supply box. She even let a very sad Katie (who, of course, wanted one of her own) carry it in to school for her. She had a new haircut, shirt and supply box and got to skip her nap (since Kindergarten is during everyone else's naptime), but other than that, not much different from our regular routine (so no tears from mom ;). She's catching on that Kindergarten involves more work, which she complained about a little this morning. I let her know that she has many more years of school to come, so getting used to it now would probably be in her best interest - lol. School really does last forever, doesn't it?
Aside from preparing for Kenzie's big day, we spent alot of time working on the playhouse last weekend. Tom gave in and made the house walls a foot taller, which I think made a huge difference. I'd hate to spend this much time and effort on something Kenzie would be too tall for in another year or two. Then we spent an entire day re-leveling the walls after putting everything back together. We thought we were going to have to take it apart again to move it out to the yard, but Tom/his brothers/Dad were strong enough to move the entire house fully assembled. What a relief! Jack cannot grow up soon enough - we need that kind of strength around here! :)
Tom and I shingled the roof with his Dad's help on Monday and the guys put that on top before we BBQ'd and let the kids play in the waterslide with Dylan, who was with us most of the weekend. Here are some pics of them raising the roof...
Tom and I picked up all of the stain for it yesterday and started painting, but then a giant storm came through and we weren't able to finish. It's supposed to rain for the rest of the week, so we're hoping to have it all done by the end of next weekend. The kids are so excited to play in it and I can't wait to see it all come together.
For now, it's back to work and maybe I can sneak some painting in during lunch today. I also need to wish my baby sister a HAPPY BIRTHDAY today! The big 3-0 - wow.
